The Human Immunodeficiency Virus, abbreviated HIV, has long been recognized as a pandemic: its terrors transcend nations and even tribes. Many, especially the afflicted, speak about the virus in frightened whispers.
She had to make that observation when rumours began flying all over the place about her HIV status. Some peeps accuse Zodwa of sleeping around and challenge her to reveal her HIV status. But Zodwa Wabantu, who is busy making auditions to land a movie role, cannot be bothered to reveal her status.
It would amount to bullying to force her to reveal her status. And no, she wouldn’t reveal anything to please or impress anyone. Zodwa Wabantu, a friend to some HIV positive people, is aware of HIV stereotypes and wouldn’t want to add to it.
“I am not the kind of person that will get sensitive and defend myself. Instead, I will fight back. It is not their right to ‘out’ people or force people to reveal their status. They are being bullies if they are and so I will tell them that. Your status is your business. It is yours, embrace it. Don’t allow others to make a mockery of it,” she said in a recent chat with TshisaLIVE.
She also addressed the issue in a video posted on her Instagram page.

Zodwa Wabantu, who is said to earn nothing less than R25k per gig, is miffed by the hypocrisy of some people who claim in the open to be champs in the fight against HIV/AIDS but loudly gossip in secret about the afflicted.
