“My time at Cashtime was actually a foundation, just in terms of where I’m at right now. I spent about five years there and the knowledge and experience that I got there from amagrootman (older brothers) is something that I couldn’t trade for anything else.” Kid X said.
The Middleburg-born rapper whose real name is Bonginkosi Mahlangu was with Cashtime Life under the tutelage of Mr CashTime, K.O, at the time the label enjoyed a world or success and re-defined SA Hip Hop.
Unfortunately, CashTime Life eventually fell under the weight of internal squabbles which saw the departure of big name artists including Nomuzi Mabena and Kid X. However, the “Mfazi Wephepha“ crooner insists there’s no bad blood between himself and K.O as widely speculated.
“What we managed to accomplish in that time is that we managed to pinpoint a distinctively South African hip-hop sound.” Kid X added.
