Samkelo “Samthing Soweto” is keen on getting on with his life and not staring at the black slate of his past. He has had several run-ins with the law, and even served time in jail. But those are in his past.
He wants to move on. And he is grateful to be forgiven by the community that once groaned under the nails of his turpitude. He told TshisaLIVE: “Most of the people have forgiven me for half the things I did as a youngster. I always remember the second, the third, and fourth chance that I got.”
He added:“I know what type of forgiveness one can get from a community and what that means for an artist. You can draw a lot of strength from that. Knowing that your neighbours or those around you want you to win does something for you that you can’t find in any book or song. Your community builds you.”Source: Samthing Soweto/ Instagram
Indeed it is a second chance that the muso is happy to get. Armed robbery was the crime for which he was sent to jail, along with his friends. But his name has since been expunged from the criminal records.
Prison had given him time to reflect and also to return to school. He has graduated and is grateful to the CPT. He wrote on Instagram; “Thank you CPT! Thank you for the send off. We are ready for NYC!! #sundayeditioncpt.”
So begins a new life for Samthing Soweto. Hopefully, he wouldn’t suffer another slip into crime. Hopefully.
