Recap of the #DankieSanConcert in honour of ProKid

It was promise made and promise fulfilled for friends and associates of the late hip hop star Linda “” Mkhize as they turned out en masse to grace the concert organized in his honour to raise funds for his daughter’s education.

The idea to hold a concert to raise funds for ’s daughter was birthed during his memorial service held Thursday August 16 at Newtown Music Factory – the old Bassline, Johannesburg.

Eyewitness News (EWN) TshisaLIVE reported that tickets for the concert literally sold out. Indeed South Africa did not hesitate to honour its own.

When the show kicked off in the afternoon, it grabbed a gold bar as one of the trending topics on social media.

The show brought the audience in close proximity with its favourite stars, and the air was much redolent with excitement.

The #DankieSanConcert attracted the cream of South Africa’s singers. AKA, EMTEE, HHP, Cassper Nyovest, DJ Fresh, Kwesta, , and a host of others were present.

If rapper EMTEE’s claim recently that he was sober from all narcotics was thought a joke, his performance at the concert proved he was in fact in earnest. He gave such a sterling performance that the audience went wild.

“Fela in Versace” hitmaker AKA was also on hand to add a spin to the audience’s excitement. The Supa Mega who had complained two days prior about the organizers not keeping their end of the bargain, did not let that steal the fire from his performance.

He was outstanding and left the audience salivating for more.

“Pick You Up” crooner Rikyrick took the stage at a point and sang and danced to resounding applause. He was joined soon after, briefly, by Gemini Major

Rappers Reason and Blaklez gave a collaborative performance so good it made the audience wild with excitement. The “Baby Brother” hitmaker  would probably have been thought drunk or possessed while he made his performance. But he wasn’t. His spirit was totally in his vibes.

Besides giving a special shout out to , BET Award winner Sjava also gave a superlative performance that the audience loudly appreciated. MTV Base even acknowledged this in a tweet.

It was an immersive experience, this coming together of South Africa’s music champs to honour one of its own, and there were those with the singular wish the concert continued.

The concert may have come and gone, but its memories are sure to remain in the consciousness of South Africa, not forgetting PRO of course.
