“I have been with my wife for 23 years and have never laid a hand on her. I am grieving. I just wish to be left to mourn in peace,” singer Pitch Black Afro (real name Thulani Ngcobo) had said of his wife’s murder.
But those words did not impress the officers of justice and Pitch Black Afro, who DJ Waxxy had featured on “Yini” alongside Buffalo Souljah, Brickz and Maraza, had been charged with premeditated murder of his wife and remanded in custody.
Pitch Black Afro’s wife died on New Year’s eve, just after both of them had an outing at a friends and were said to have left and rented a bed and breakfast for the night thereafter.
Initially Pitch Black Afro’s wife Catherine (some call her Trisha) was thought to have died of natural causes. But the bruises on her face made many suspect foul play. An autopsy report indicated she died as a result of the bruises sustained.
“I last saw him two weeks back. It was fine. We were sitting normally and listening to music. They were very happy together. I was surprised. I didn’t expect that this would happen,” a friend of Pitch Black Afro’s, who admitted the musician had a short temper, told TshisaLIVE.
Pitch Black Afro was charged with premeditated murder at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday Thursday 10 January.
He told the court he could not afford a lawyer, and bail was denied him pending when he could get a legal representative. The case was adjourned to January 15.
