It was a rude shock for singer Moonchild Sanelly in Tanzania, when airport security mistook her for a drug peddler because of her looks and manhandled her on her way back to South Africa.
The singer, who has several songs to her credit, including “Weh Mamah,” and has had several collaborations with other artistes such as DJ Maphorisa, DJ Shimzais and SCOOBYNERO was said to have sustained bruises as a result of her ill treatment.
The Public would never have known of this incident and the injuries she sustained but for BATUC MUSIC, which had tweeted: “GUYS! OUR VERY OWN AT @Moonsanelly WAS DRAGGED ON THE FLOOR BY HANDCUFFS & ATTACKED BY THE POLICE AT NAMIBIA AIRPORT YDAY ON HER WAY BACK HOME.SHE HAS BRUISES AND IS TRAUMATIZED.WE NEED TO MAKE A NOISE ABT THIS VIOLENCE AGAINST OUR SISTER!!”
Moonchild Sanelly was in Tanzania for a performance, and although @BATUCMUSICA said Moonchild was assaulted in Namibia, we see Moonchild Sanelly in a video posted on Instagram saying she was detained in Tanzania.
She said in the video: “I’m in Tanzania and I can’t make the Cape Town show ’cause people don’t understand color and they just have to be racist about everything and you have to call them madam, but you don’t even have drugs. Just because you look like drugs….they didn’t find drugs…”

The incident has provoked a great debate on social media, with many sympathizing with the singer and other describing the people who manhandled her as ignorant and untrained.
