Storm Matodzi has the singular fortune of catering to the fashion needs of some of South Africa’s celebrities, from “Fela in Versace” crooner AKA to “Strings and Bling” mastermind Nasty C, to Jhene Aiko.
He was also the very first person to style the reality television show Idols South Africa, which has since become a hit with music lovers across Africa.
The year is young yet, and for those looking to live their best life this year, the stylist has got a simple advice: “less is always more. You can get well-known brands, but you need to wear them— not let them wear you — cause you can’t buy cool.”
Storm Matodzi, who dropped out of school to pursue his style dreams, doesn’t just create; he also makes it a point to build relationships with his clients, provoking a two-way growth: for himself and for them.
As he never failed to state, his girlfriend, who noticed his great dress sense, had introduced him to the world of fashion. And he ended up styling the men on her set. He has not looked back since.
By the way, Storm Matodzi isn’t exactly your local champ. He already has plans drawn up to collaborate with the Holmes brothers and with the rapper and producer Gemini Major, with whom he has been in touch.
