The 23rd South African Music Awards has come and gone, but this year’s event will echo a little bit longer. At the close of the biggest night in South African music, winners have now emerged.
We at Hitvibes believe every artist that has in some way or the other contributed to the growth of South African music should be celebrated and therefore believe everyone is a winner.
However, some acts have put in an extra bout of effort and they have earned the gong tonight. The show which returned to Sun City was hosted by Somizi and Tumi Morake. It witnessed the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry.
Taking the shine off the glitzy ceremony at the glamorous awards is Kwesta. The “Ngiyaz’fela Ngawe” rapper took home four of the possible six awards including Album of the Year, Best Rap Album, Highest Airplay of the Year, as well as Best Collaboration on “Ngud” with Cassper Nyovest.
Ambitiouz Entertainment‘s damsel, Amanda Black also gave a strong showing. The “Amazulu” star earned recognition in the Best Newcomer of the Year, Best Female Artist of the Year and Best Album of the Year and Best R&B/Soul/Reggae Album categories.
While Rebecca Malope, Don Laka and Babsy Mlangeni were honoured with Lifetime Achievement awards, “Bad Hair“ genius, Nasty C earned the most prestigious honour of the night with the coveted Record of the Year award.
