The #IAMNEXT competition was started by South African vodka brand, Russia Bear, to discover and nurture Hip-Hop talents while promoting its lines of beverages.
Last year’s edition was a massive success and witnessed the discovery of some hip-hop talents, including Caleb Heynes, who has since launched his music career.
This year’s edition has Bonginkosi Mahlangu, famously known as Kid X, as host. The rapper, who has several hit songs to his credit watched last year’s edition and was impressed.
The “Aunty” hitmaker during a recent interview revealed what it meant to be a part of this latest edition.
“When Russian Bear approached me, I could not let this opportunity pass by. I followed the ‘#IAMNEXT’ campaign last year with Kwesta and was inspired by the opportunities that the campaign provided for up-and-coming artists in South African communities” he said.
He added: “I can’t wait to go on this journey with the fans and look forward to us taking ‘#IAMNEXT’ to the next level together.“
His excitement is matched only by those of Russia Bear brand manager Simone Burn, who said
“We hope that fans are ready and inspired to level up this year and show us what they’ve got. We look forward to embarking on this journey once again, and discovering the best of what the South African hip-hop scene has to offer.“
As well as having a recording deal for a collaborative single with KiD X, the winner of the competition will also feature in a music video to be broadcast on MTV.
