Idols SA Star And Singer, Thami Shobede Dead After Sudden Illness

Former SA Idols star, , is dead. The Mzansi singer died on September 12, at the Kafalong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday. He was aged 31. He reportedly collapsed on stage while performing last weekend.

Confirming the news to TshishaLive, general manager at Gallo Records said the label found out that morning that the Idols star was in the hospital for an illness and complications. He also sent his condolences to the singer’s family and friends saying he would be missed by the label and all.

Cowling said:

Gallo Record Company is extremely saddened and shocked to learn of the sudden passing of one of our artists, Siphiwe Thamsanqa Shobede, fondly known as Thami.

His family went to see him in Atteridgeville hospital, where he passed away sometime just before noon this morning.

The singer with the velvet voice and Season 12 Idols SA runner up was only 31 years of age.

The Sowetan reports that the late singer was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed on stage during a performance. According to them, a source close to the singer said his organs failed and he slipped into a coma.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, his mother, Mantombi Buthelezi said he had been admitted to the hospital two Fridays ago because he felt weak but didn’t know the cause of his death. She said;
