‘F the SAMAs’ – Cassper Nyovest on BET Awards nomination
Family Tree Records CEO, Cassper Nyovest continues to grab all the headlines following his 2018 BET Awards nomination. Only thing is he has now joined a growing list of local artists who have trashed the South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
While speaking at a press briefing following the announcement of the 2018 BET Awards nominees, Mufasa simply made it clear he was over the SAMAs as the show wasn’t helping him with the exposure he needed or taking him anywhere.
“I can’t submit to the SAMAs every year when I don’t understand them. Nobody had ever answered us. We keep submitting just to say “ah, F the SAMAs,” but we keep submitting.
So, for me, I was like…you know? When I thought about it, I don’t really need the SAMAs you know, they don’t take me anywhere, they don’t expose me to anybody…” Cassper Nyovest said before adding right at the end “the SAMAs are trash though!”
The “Tito Mboweni“ hitmaker joins a growing list of South African acts who have publicly expressed displeasure with the organisation of the SAMAs in recent times including AKA and Papa Penny.
Cassper will be facing stiff competition for the Best International Act gong from the likes of good pal, Davido, who won Best African Act in the past year.
Others in the running are Booba (France), Fally Ipupa (Dr. Congo), J Hus (UK), Niska(France), Tiwa Savage (Nigeria), Stefflon Don (UK) and Stormzy (UK).
Gqom princes Distruction Boyz also continued on their unbelievable run with a nomination in the same category following the massive success of their 2017 “Gqom Is The Future” album.
