Boity: I won’t Regret My Rap Career
In a recent interview with TshisaLIVE the newest rapper in town Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo had said of her singing/ rap career: “I got into this because it is something that I’ve been wanting to do for so long, for so many years actually. It’s just me heeding a call and chasing a passion of mine and so far it’s good.”
Her spirit is in the rap game, and she is doing just that – rapping. Some may question her abilities and skill and even scoff at the idea that she is a rapper and calls herself one, but she doesn’t really care.
The important thing to her is that she is doing what she has always wanted to do, and even if she failed at it, she would be okay in having made an attempt at least; she won’t regret it.
The people may say what they like. Heck, people will always talk. In a recent interview with TshisaLIVE, she observed: “Everyone is watching, everyone has an opinion. Everyone wants to put you in their own box. I’m doing this for me. And to show people that you shouldn’t allow other people to box you.
Don’t allow people to tell you that ‘this is who you’re meant to be’. The passion is yours, the universe planted it in you, so you can’t allow another person to tell you what to do with it.”
“I’m young, I’m energetic. I have the opportunity and the time to do everything. I don’t wanna be on my deathbed one day and be like, ‘F***, I should have sung, I should have rapped, I should have been an architect … ‘ At this point, I’m like, ‘If I wanna do it, I’m gonna do it’. If I wanna interior decorate, I’m gonna do it. Why not?”
Well, she is doing it and doing it well already. “Wuz Dat” is a brilliant banger. Those who choose to ask in mordant cynicish “she’s a rapper” cannot take away Boity’s talent or her determination. Another thing is, like her or not, as a rapper, she’s bound to be great.
