“Baby Brother” mastermind Blazlez is one rapper who is not only socially conscious but keen to share that consciousness with others. As such, his music usually has a message to pass across to the populace.
Blaklez raps about everything on the face of the earth, from relationships to self worth and doubt, and what say you. But he is somewhat chagrined that social rappers are barely appreciated in the industry. He made this view known in a recent chat with TshisaLIVE.
“It has got easier but there is still not a lot of space in the industry for social rappers, they aren’t appreciated as much. I don’t know what it is exactly because there are artists that speak loudly away from the music. Maybe they fear they will lose fans if they try to push a message,” said Blaklez.
Social rappers may not be appreciated, in Blaklez words, but the muso, who PdotO featured on “Love or Lust,” would not stop rapping about social issues. Not really.
Although he was nominated for the South Africa Hip Hop Awards, he clinched nothing in the categories in which he was nominated. That is not at all discouraging. Already, he has got great plans for the New Year.
Those plans would have been cut short as Blazlez was involved in an accident just after the #SAHHA2018 event. He survived and took a snap of him in a medical van in the company of medic, to memorialize the event.
“Almost died a few minutes ago. I asked the Medi Response team to take a picture with me before they drove me to the hospital. Everyone is all smiles,” he tweeted.
2019 is a year of more songs and videos for the “Blak Xmas II” mastermind. Happy survival, Blazlez.
