Babes Wodumo Accused Of Stealing ‘GandaGanda’

It has been a tumultuous year for but it all looked set to become a thing of the past with the release of “GandaGanda.” The current hit song enjoying quite a lot of buzz off the Banger 1.

However, even that success now seem to be laced in controversy as two disc jockeys have now accused Babes whose real name is Bongekile Simelane. The Wololo hitmaker has been accused of song theft by two disc jockeys who claim “GandaGanda” is theirs and that stole it from them.

The latest of a string of those who have accused of song theft are two Durban DJs by the name Luvuyo ‘DJ Luvas’ Njeje and Lungelo ‘Pluto’ Ntombela.

In fact, the initial success story of this record did not come without drama. Prior to its release, Babes Wodumo had taken to social media to tell fans her USB which contained the song was missing. She further sought help from fans to help her with a link to delete the song as she heard it had leaked and was already being played at the Durban taxi rank.

At the time however, many fans and online trolls had seen it as another great opportunity to drag and troll Babes Wodumo. Fortunately, she found the USB, released the song and it has proven to be successful thus far.

In a twist, however, the disc jockeys insists the song is theirs and asserted that fact in an interview with City Press. They said:

“Babes knows the truth. The title of her song and the duration are the same as ours; only the beats and lyrics are different. She stole our song, which we released on 6 April,”

Luvuyo ‘DJ Luvas’ Njeje and Lungelo ‘Pluto’ Ntombela do not look like they would back out anytime soon and have even taken matters to the South African Music Rights Organisations (SAMRO). The Organisation’s spokesperson by the name Eugene Golouw confirmed that they received an email from Njeje.

“We have sent them detailed policy documents outlining what they need to send to us, along with evidence to lodge a formal complaint,” Eugene stated.

However, it looks like are also ready to battle it out as Eugene Golouw also further expanded that last week Thursday, they received a formal notification from Holdings which indicated that Babes Wodumo is one of the co-authors of “Gandaganda.”
