They are two of America’s most visible and most loved artistes, and they are alswo known to be firm friends. But the bond between American rappers Kanye West and Jay Z may be shaky at the moment, as Kanye West had reportedly filed a suit against him.
Kanye West, who is also a producer, credits himself with revitalizing J-Z’s career. But Jay-Z is not having it. And neither it seems, are Jay-Z’s fans. Some have lashed out at Kanye West, especially given his statement that slavery was a choice, and his support for President Donald Trump.
The Hoot reports that Kanye West, who apologized for his slavery comment last year, is suing Jay-Z’s company Rock-a-Fella, among others.
“Kanye West has filed a pair of lawsuits in what may be an attempt to extradite himself from contracts and reclaim control over his career. One lawsuit is against EMI, the song publisher that has administered the rights to his songs since 2003, shortly before the hip-hop star released his debut album, The College Dropout. The other is against Roc-a-Fella Records, UMG Recordings, Def Jam and Bravado International Group”
Kanye West and Jay-Z, who wowed the world at the Global Citizen in Soweto in 2018 alongside wife Beyonce, have a long history together. In fact, they were the subject of a documentary in 2017.
Things are only just beginning. This promises to be an interesting suit, and we are following it. Stay tuned for updates, peeps.
