AKA was to have performed at the festival, but around 11 p.m. gunshots rented the air, causing pandemonium.
AKA took to Twitter to announce that he would no longer perform at the festival, and to offer his condolences to the slain. His tweet reads: “Unfortunately someone got shot at iPotsoyi a few minutes ago and the cops shut the show down so I won’t be able to get on stage. Apologies and condolences.”
The organizers of the festival also made an announcement discontinuing the festival which has become popular in Mzansi for a couple of years. Part of the announcement reads: “With heavy hearts we have taken the decision to discontinue this event series.
“We appreciate and cherish the support and journey over the years and hope that the issue of Gun Violence will be addressed in Cape Town. Above All, our heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the deceased.”
Unlike the organizer’s announcement, AKA’s post drew jests from Twitter fan, and got the SupaMega riled. He slammed those who made a joke of someone’s death, a family’s loss, and advised them to snap out of such insensitivity.
“To clarify … because y’all making jokes on my tweet’s mentions … someone’s son got shot in the head at the show and died … carry on with the funny haha shit,” reads one of his tweets.
Hopefully this will cause some of the persons addressed to show empathy in the future.
