South African Rapper AKA has finally broken his silence of domestic abuse allegations against his late fiancée, Aneli Nelli Tembe. He categorically denies any form of gender based violence.
AKA whose real name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes has been in the eye of the storm ever since the unfortunate passing of Aneli; especially after photos and videos made the rounds on social media showing the Hip Hop act breaking down a door to access a bedroom where she was hiding.
This has led to a chorus of criticisms of the “Iron Duke” man with calls from several quarters including the GBV organization asking for the boycott of his music.
AKA through a spokesperson, Rudolph Baloyi, a senior associate at Mabuza Attorneys has now refuted those claims in a statement:
“Mr Forbes takes the current events playing out since this past Sunday seriously. It is regrettable that he and his brand are now associated with GBV. However, he assures his fans and the public that he is not a perpetrator of GBV. In due time he will respond fully to all questions and queries. Currently, the situation is heavy on him and his family as a whole.”
The statement reads further:
“It is also difficult to deal with public outcry and condemnation on social media. The screenshots from an unreleased video seen over the past weekend online are not a true reflection of the alleged situations that arose on the day.”
The statement concludes that AKA still loves his late fiancée and asserts that at this time, he is not a suspect, rather a witness.
