Toya Delazy debuts a defiant new song titled “Funani“. The resilient artiste comes through with a new one, and she’s got a lot to say on it. The singer is pushing the Afro sound harder than no one else at the moment.
In an era of Amapiano and Gqom domination, she’s taken a stand with her sound which she’s definitely not comprising.
About the track, she says it’s a clear move from her usual happy pop tunes to her new one, Afro-rave. She said “Funani is a notable divergence from the happy pop music my fans have come to expect from me, and my new hard-hitting African-inspired sound is something we’ve dubbed Afro-rave”.
Speaking to TimesLIVE, she also revealed that the new song is a defiant one which talks about not giving in to compromise. According to her people should be free to follow their path because “anyone is special and anywhere can be heaven as long as you don’t look down on it.“.
The new song comes accompanied by its official visual which was shot in Tembisa, Gauteng. It was directed by acclaimed music video director Kyle Lewis who connects to her vision for the track to deliver an inspiring multicolored set.
About shooting the video in Tembisa, she called it “special”. She aims as putting the town in a different light to defy all the negativity about townships.
The new song follows her previous release “gQoma” as she tries to change the narrative with the track’s obvious message.
