Bongile Pateni (born September 23, 1989), better known by his stage name MaXhoseni, is a South African rapper, songwriter and producer from Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape. His musical career began in 2007 with the release of “Honey” (arguably the best South African hip-hop love song of all time), which also appeared on his first mixtape, Ikhoboka Lenyaniso released the following year.
Maxhoseni has produced songs for artists like Kimosabe (Prom Knights), Iintloko Zeenyoka, Test (Un-decided Crew) and many more. He has collaborated with several artists in the music industry, including Scelo Gowane, Kimosabe, Stay Fresh Team, DJ Joejo and Deejay Soso to name a few.
Maxhoseni was nominated in two categories at the South African Hip-Hop Awards 2013 – for Best Lyricist alongside Khuli Chana, Reason, Ginger Trill, Pro and Zuluboy; and in the Mixtape of the Year category alongside Gigi LaMayne, DreamTeam, DJ Lemonka and Space Munna. He has been featured on Hype Magazine 4 times, and his hustle earned him the number 2 spot on I Speak Hip-Hop Magazine’s Top 5 Unsigned rappers.
He was featured on BEAT Magazine as one of the Top 5 royal faces in the Eastern Cape entertainment industry, and he was also featured on Hype Magazine’s Ambition Tape (2015) as one of the Top 16 independent emerging artists in the country. He has made appearances on Radio Stations such as Umhlobo Wenene FM, Ukhozi FM, Bush Radio, Vukani FM, Forte FM, Radio Zibonele, Mdantsane FM, Nkqubela FM and trufm.
Maxhoseni’s song “Xa uThando Luselutsha” reached number 1 spot on The Stir Up local Top 5 chart on 5FM and number 2 spot on the Kasi Top 5 chart on UKhozi FM. It reached number 1 in the EC Top 5 chart on Mdantsane FM, and the “Xa uThando Luselutsha” video made its first national TV debut on SABC 1’s show Bona Retsang. This song is still receiving heavy rotation on trufm, Umhlobo Wenene FM, Mdantsane FM to name a few. And the “Xa uThando Luselutsha” video is currently sitting on 38,878 views.
His song “Impilo Injalo” featuring Scelo Gowane reached number 1 spot in the Kasi Top 5 chart on Ukhozi FM. This song has been play listed on radio stations around South Africa.
What’s arguably the biggest highlight of his career, rocking a crowd of 18 500 people in Johannesburg in Africa’s largest Hip-Hop gathering, Back To The City 2013 alongside the cream of SA Hip-Hop acts and Masta Ace (International Act).
