The United States State Department is speaking out concerning the arrest of hip hop star, A$AP Rocky.

Black American rapper, A$AP Rocky was arrested in Sweden on July 2nd over his alleged involvement in a street fight in Stockholm. Apparently, the Swedish authorities plan to keep him detained till July 19 while they investigate the prerecorded assault.

A spokesperson for the U.S. State department has said the department is aware of the rapper’s case and that the Secretary of State has also been briefed. Also, Top officials are closely monitoring the situation and urging the Swedish government to treat the rapper fairly.

In a statement to POLITICO the spokesperson said;

There are certainly some facts about the arrest and detention that raise concerns. We expect all governments, including Sweden, to treat American citizens fairly and with respect …We hope to see A$AP Rocky and his colleagues back on tour and reunited with friends and family soon.

The rapper whose detention has created a buzz online, still remains in custody in Sweden as his colleagues in the music industry fight for his release.

Also speaking to POLITICO is a lawyer in Rocky’s legal team, Alan Jackson, he said;

President Trump has made bringing home unjustly held Americans a top priority for his administration. The State Department’s interest in the case gives us great hope for Rocky’s situation. Secretary Pompeo and Ambassador O’Brien have been relentless in their diplomatic efforts on behalf of American citizens being held all over the world. Rocky’s millions of fans worldwide are putting their trust in the State Department to get Rocky home.

More celebrities keep speaking out and standing by the rapper.
