Singer Sues Nipsey Hussle’s Estate Over ‘Hussle & Motivate’

L.A. based singer sues Nipsey Hussle’s estate over payment issues for “Hussle & Motivate“.

According to a report by TMZ, an L.A. based singer, Tasleema Yasin has filed a creditor’s claim against Nipsey Hussle‘s estate in Los Angeles County Superior Court claiming she’s owed a cut from the late rapper’s song, Hussle & Motivate. According to her, she wrote a four-note vocal phrase on the song, and also performed key components of the track. As reported by Complex.

The court documents were filed by Yasin on September 5, in which she claims that she collaborated with the late rapper on the track in 2016. Yasin also claims Hussle never obtained her permission to release the track on Victory Lap. According to her, she’s owed a cut from the song as a co-author under the United States copyright law.

Although hinting that she wants a cut from the revenues of the song, Yasin doesn’t state how much she’s seeking. Rather she’s asking that the late singer’s estate do an accounting of the revenue earned from the song and then give her a required cut.

Here’s an excerpt from the complaint according to Complex;

In November of 2016, I collaborated with decedent Ermias Joseph Asghedom on a musical track entitled “Hussle & Motivate.” I wrote and performed the ascending four-note vocal phrase featured throughout the song’s runtime, as well as a countermelody in my higher register featured prominently during the song’s chorus…

Asghedom was obligated to credit and account to me for my ratable share of any monies earned by Asghedom in connection with ‘Hussle & Motivate.'”
