American singer, songwriter, and actress, Mariah Carey has reportedly been offered £9 million to become the new face of Walkers Crisps.
The 49-year-old “Songbird Supreme” is being considered by the brand to take over from Spice Girls as the face of the snack food products, with an offer of more money than all five members – Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Geri Horner, Mel C, and Emma Bunton – of the English pop group.
Walkers Crisps will be filming a “festive” advert with Mariah which will feature the singers hit single ‘All I Want For Christmas‘.
A source revealed on The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column that Mariah’s face will appear on 50 million packets of crisps.
“Having the Spice Girls on board was a real coup for Walkers in terms of names they’d be able to work with in future. They approached Mariah earlier this year and it’s all going through now. Her people have the contract and are just signing off the details, including what Mariah will and won’t do for the brand. As part of the campaign, her face is going to appear on 50 million packets of crisps. Walkers are hoping to tie in Mariah’s involvement with their big advertising campaign during the festive season, which they think could work really well with her hit ‘All I Want For Christmas.'” – the source said.
Walkers Crisps holds 56 percent of the British crisps market, and are best known for producing potato crisps, and other, non-potato-based snack foods.
Mariah Carey is recognized as the third-best-selling female artist in the United States, with 64 million certified albums, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The singer is also listed as the female songwriter and producer with the most number-one songs in United States chart history.
