D’Banj – “Mo Cover Eh” Ft. Slimcase

With the release of “Mo Cover Eh,” a collaborative single with Slimcase, even when the world is yet to get over the sheer pleasure of “Shy,” it is clear D’Banj has found a form close to superlative. I say “close to” because I am sure the best of the songster is yet to come.

D’Banj‘s music lends itself to several genre tags, and even “Mo Cover Eh” might divide the pundits on what suitable tag to adopt for it. Anyway, D’Banj‘s music seems to be a medley of afrobeats, afropop and afro-fusion. And yes, he does magic with his numbers.

Shy,” his immediate past track, is a fine example. But then you’ve got a finer example in the track in hand: “Mo Cover Eh,” a work of undeniable craftsmanship. D’Banj, who recently celebrated his birthday, must have received from whatever he believes in a new lease of lyrical energy that is hard to miss.

Bar after bar in his latest number, you find yourself jumping with the spirit of the song. The impulse is inexplicable; it just so happens.

Oluwafemi Oladapo Oko-Eko, the Nigerian millennial who goes by the stage name Slimcase, brought his shaku shaku vibes to the number, and the results are apparent, provoking a smile on first discovery. You surely wouldn’t mind surrendering yourself to the magic D’Banj and Slimcase have got wrapped in the new song “Mo Cover Eh.”
