American rapper cum actor, Common has released a new music video titled ‘Show Me That You Love’.
The song, which features Jill Scott and Samora Pinderhughes, is dedicated to Common’s daughter Omoye, who recently graduated from Howard University.
‘Show Me That You Love‘ centres on the challenges Common faced while raising Omoye, who is now an adult. The song revisits a late-night text message that criticizes Commo’s parenting, which his daughter sent to him at one point in recent years.
In the video, Common, who earlier revealed that he’s not been in best terms with his daughter in times past, explores the various textures to their relationship, ultimately relaying the message that it’s important for parents to show their children that they love them and that they care.
The Chicago veteran revealed recently that he was able to resolve the differences between himself and his daughter with the help of therapy.
Common‘s new album ‘Let Love‘ will drop on August 30th, and we can undoubtedly say that the content will be filled with messages of love in all ramifications.
“She said I didn’t care
She said I wasn’t there when she was younger
Summer tour buses weren’t enough to show what love is
She said I did things that a dad doesn’t
And that she had questions, if I’m a good father, why all the bad judgement?
I’m looking past judgement, about to ask something
But she was bag busting.” – the lyrics quoted in part.
