Afrobeat is the in-thing in Nigeria right now with a sterling throng of voices waving its flag and others in the background fighting their way to get a hold of the flag.
One of the keenest voices in Nigeria’s afrobeats universe is no other than David Adeleke, who is no renowned by the stage name Davido. The songster has evolved much since his first appearance on the music scene as a teen.
Old in the game but still young in age, he has got a trove of songs that will stand the test of time. Below are some of them, in no particular order:
“Fall” is a (June) 2017 belter from the DMW boss which debuted at number 1 on the Nigerian singles chart. Although it has been two years since the song’s release, it is one that can still pull down the house any day and one Davido himself speaks fondly of. It was produced by Kiddominant
“Fall” is not only a chart topper at home but on the global scene as well. It peaked at 29 on Billboard Top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop charts earlier this year.
The song has even spawned a cover by Canadian rapper Tory Lanez.
Released exactly three years ago, in 2016, “Skelewu” is another crowd-pulling number that shut down dance floors at the time of its release and can still shut down dance floors today. It is one of Davido‘s songs with eternal appeal. It was nominated for MTV Africa Music Award for Song of the Year.
“If” is yet another grand number from Davido and one that will most likely be rocked around the world long after he quits the stage. Released in 2017, it is also one of the most charming love songs by Davido to date.
“Dami Duro” is one of the earliest numbers from Davido and one which shows that his themes transcend love. It is a song in which Davido talks obstacles and how to get around them, and even the necessity of them on a man’s way to the top. It was released in 2012.
