EXO‘s Baekhyun has broken the ‘Highest Monthly Sales’ record by a solo artist on the Gaon Chart.
2019 seems to be a year of breaking music records worldwide as many artists have broken chart records both in the US, the UK, and now in Korea. From Ariana Grande, to Lil Nas X to Ed Sheeran, it’s been a record breaking year, now Korean solo star, Baekhyun has also achieved the feat in his own significant way.
Famously known to be part of the South Korean-Chinese boy band, EXO based in Seoul, Baekhyun released his first solo project to massive acclaim and it has broken chart records. An official announcement by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) on August 8 stated that Baekhyun’s solo (mini) album, City Lights has sold a record 508,321 copies and ranked No. 1 on July’s monthly album chart. This is a feat which has never been achieved by any solo artist in the history of Goan chart.
Further confirming the news, The KMCA released a statement saying “This record marks the highest monthly sales of any album by a solo artist in Gaon chart history”.
Asides from this week, the Korean singer topped the Goan weekly album chart with City Lights from July 7 – July 13.
Born Byun Baek-hyun but monomously called Baekhyun, he is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and actor. He is also famous for being a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group Exo, its sub-group Exo-K and also its sub-unit Exo-CBX. Baekhyun is 27 years old which marks the age when he broke the chart record.
